We believe in being transparent about our process. That includes how we use AI tools in our work.

Like many publications, we've started experimenting with generative AI to help with some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into journalism. To be clear: AI doesn't write our stories. Our reporters and editors do. But these tools can help us work more efficiently.

What we use AI for

We use AI tools to assist with research, help draft summaries for different platforms, and catch grammatical errors before publication. We also use it to help organize our archives and surface relevant past coverage when we're reporting on ongoing transit issues.

Every piece of content still goes through our editorial process. Every fact gets checked. Every story gets reviewed by human editors before it goes live. The reporting, the writing, and the editorial judgment are ours.
