Current Status and Next Rollout: Which NYC Subway Lines Have Wireless Service

If you're wondering whether you can finally text from your morning commute, here's where things stand right now.

So far, only a handful of tunnels have live coverage. The 42nd Street Shuttle tunnel (between Grand Central and Times Square) has full 5G service. The Canarsie (L) tunnel between Manhattan and Brooklyn is also live. More recently, the Joralemon Street Tunnel carrying the 4 and 5 lines now has connectivity.

Next up: the G train between Court Square and Hoyt-Schermerhorn is slated to get 5G soon. The MTA says they'll install wireless gear alongside planned signal upgrades, taking advantage of already-scheduled maintenance windows.

Beyond that, the A and C lines are in the queue. Officials say fiber and cables will be run during other construction outages when tracks are already shut down, so installation can happen without extra disruptions.

Full coverage across all 418 miles of tunnels isn't expected until around 2030. Timelines depend on when Boldyn Networks can access tunnels during maintenance windows and coordinate with other capital projects. Progress moves at subway speed, but at least a few key stretches are finally lit.
